AICPA to Host Inaugural National Audit Committee Forum Conference to Offer Best Practices for Audit Committee Members
NEW YORK, July 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants will hold its first National Audit Committee Forum on July 29 - 30 in Washington, D.C. The program will offer audit committee members instruction about crucial responsibilities such as managing a public company audit and the relationship between internal and external auditors, as well as crisis management strategies.
"With the increased attention on corporate governance over the last decade, the importance of the audit committee cannot be overstated," said Carol Scott, AICPA vice president for business, industry and government. "The audit committee is essentially its organization's financial conscience. The responsibilities have grown demonstrably, and committee members need appropriate guidance to carry out their essential charge. That's the AICPA's goal for its first audit committee forum."
The forum is designed for the boards of directors and audit committees of public, not-for-profit, private and government organizations, as well as for the auditors and senior executives who interact with audit committees, such as chief executive officers and chief financial officers.
The conference will include the following sessions:
- "International corporate governance trends for the United Kingdom and the United States," presented by Lord Clive Hollick, a former partner and managing director at Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, and Holly Gregory, a partner at Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP
- "Whether audit committee members should monitor corporate ethics," presented by former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission member Roel Campos
- "Lessons learned about enterprise risk management," presented by Carl Berquist, CFO, Marriott Corporation
- "What audit committees should understand about corporate tax disclosures," presented by Internal Revenue Service's Large and Mid-Sized Business Division Commissioner Heather Maloy.
A conference brochure is available at www.cpa2biz.com/NACF. The registration fee is $1,295 for AICPA members, $1,595 for non-members.
The forum evolved out of the AICPA's series of audit committee guidebooks, one each for public, private, not-for-profit and government organizations.
